How to use the distance calculator
- Pin two points on the map. Click once to drop Point A (green), then click again to drop Point B (red). A line connects them and the distance appears automatically.
- Or type locations. Enter a city, landmark, or exact coordinates in the “From” and “To” fields, then press Calculate. The tool looks up the coordinates for you.

How the distance is calculated
The calculator uses the Haversine formula, the standard method for finding the great-circle distance — the shortest path between two points measured over the curved surface of a sphere. Because the Earth is round, a straight line on a flat map isn’t the true shortest route; the great-circle path is. The Haversine formula accounts for that curvature using the latitude and longitude of each point and Earth’s mean radius (about 6,371 km).
This is different from driving distance, which follows roads and is always longer than the straight-line distance. If you need road distance or travel time, a routing service like a maps navigation app is the right tool. Use this calculator when you want the direct point-to-point distance.
Kilometers vs. miles vs. nautical miles
All three units measure the same thing, just on different scales. One kilometer is about 0.621 miles. A nautical mile (about 1.852 km, or 1.151 miles) is based on the circumference of the Earth and is used in aviation and maritime navigation because it maps neatly onto latitude — one nautical mile equals one minute of arc. Showing all three at once saves you from doing the conversion yourself.
